Mixing romance, money and betrayal together on an exotic cruise is a recipe for .... MURDER. That's exactly what Agatha Christie cooked up when she wrote "Murder on the Nile". She based her 1944 play on her novel "Death on the Nile," which was published in 1937. Unlike the book, the play does not use either of Christie's well known sleuths, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. But this play at Aldersgate Church Community Theater (ACCT) has a wonderful crime solver of its own, Canon Ambrose Pennefather (Cal Whitehurst), who happens to be the guardian of the richest girl in England, Kay Ridgeway Mostyn (Annie Ermlick). Kay has just eloped with the penniless Simon Mostyn (Richard Isaacs) and they are on board the paddle steamer Lotus for a honeymoon cruise up the Nile. They are being stalked by Kay's former best friend Jacqueline de Severac (Claudia Love Petty), who Simon jilted to marry Kay. The other passengers on the cruise include the wealthy snob Miss Ffoliot-Ffloulkes (Bonnie Jourdan) and her niece, Christina Grant (Kirsten Apker), a young Communist, William Smith (Charles Lourens), Dr. Bessner (Dell Pendergrast), a central European physician, and Kay's maid, Louise (Gabriela Coro) who all manage to get mixed into the intrigue. The passengers are herded by the Steward (Charles Dragonette) and harrassed by Beadsellers (Solomie Mesfin, Tenbite Eshetu and Lori Bonnette). McNaught (Howard Soroos), the Lotus' Captain tries to keep the ship afloat and underway, despite the plots and counter-plots.

Murder on the Nile" is directed by Roland Branford Gomez who also directed last season's "Life with Father" at ACCT that was nominated for seven WATCH awards and won the award for "Outstanding Achievement in Hair Design." Roland has a strong production team in Jayn Rife, Becky Patton and Eddy Roger Parker on another beautiful set designed by John Downing. An extra enhancement for this show will be original music commissioned specifically for this performance. "Murder on the Nile" opens on October 10th.
